The work of the Cyrenians to date has been all about helping people to overcome the barriers that can accompany poverty; homelessness, poor health, addictions, isolation and low skills. We now have ground-breaking projects that are making a real difference in all these areas.
The next stage for the charity is to further develop our projects to help people into
employment. South-west Wales is undergoing significant change and regeneration, and
we want the benefits of this to be available to people in our projects, as much as they
are to the wider public.
To this end, we aim to develop further skills training, work initiatives, partnerships and links with local employers to create sustainable employment opportunities for people who have been out of work for years, or perhaps have never been in work. Of course, for this to be successful ongoing support is essential.
Decades of experience in providing support to some of the most vulnerable in the community will stand us in good stead to ensure that people are given help every step of the way.
Significant investment in the Swansea Bay area, including the SA1 development and the new marina, will increase numbers of job opportunities in the region. We want our service-users to benefit from these opportunities, along with our own work initiatives, to break the cycle of poverty and deprivation that accompanies long-term unemployment.
We recognise that this can only be achieved through partnerships and support, and we are building links with construction, marine businesses, local retailers, public and third sector employers to maximise opportunities for Cyrenians service-users.
Job, work placement and training opportunities will be advertised through our websites.
