Dragon Arts and Learning

ResaRec Furniture
Recycling Scheme

The Dragon Arts Centre provides free arts and training classes and opportunities to anyone who has experienced homelessness or social exclusion and who may have difficulty accessing mainstream education. We do this through a wide range of activities and events both on and off-site.

We are also a member of "Open College Network" which enables our members to gain nationally recognised accredited qualifications for the work they do and produce at the centre.

Res-a-Rec
Stands for Resettlement and Recycling. The furniture scheme is a service from Cyrenians Cymru, providing quality recycled furniture to the homeless, people on benefits and people on low income.

How it works.
We collect household items from members of the public, store them, and distribute them to people who are moving into new homes. The availability of quality second hand furniture forms an essential part of the resettlement process.

Volunteers.
The scheme provides the opportunity for volunteers to assist with its day to day running and develop a range of skills on its repair and renovation program.

A word from Claire Millar Retail Coordinator of Celfi

"The high standard of work at Celfi is outstanding and it never ceases to amaze me just how talented and dedicated our members and volunteers are to their chosen mediums. The sale of each piece of work makes a real difference to someone’s well being, indeed many are on low incomes so the money that they make is beneficial but more importantly each sale helps that individual gain back their self esteem and confidence and self belief in what they do which I think is priceless! Indeed the feedback from the general public has been phenomenal many people buying their work to brighten up their homes and gardens and also purchasing items of artwork as gifts for family, friends and loved ones. Many stating it was about time Swansea had it’s own variety of gift shop displaying work made by local artists and thought the project was a fantastic idea.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in making this project happen, including both staff and volunteers and especially the members for producing such amazing and beautiful pieces for their shop, without their constant energy, enthusiasm and support it would not have been possible. I am positive we will grow from strength to strength and I am proud to be a part of something so special. Many thanks!”
