New Water Confidence Courses

30/9/2008

The team in their water gearThe Gap Project of cornerstone church took a group of service users from the Cyrenians to Caswell beach to develop their water confidence through a variety of water based games, learning kayaking skills and a kayaking journey to brandy cove to see the star fish!

The surfing activity was cancelled due to small swell conditions, but the alternative activity was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Jonathan Williams said that the day helped him build his confidence in the water. Tony Evans said it was ‘a brilliant day out’ and Jason Keddy said the activity helped him ‘get used to the sea when I am not able to swim.’

Thanks to all who took part, Clare Evans for helping supervise the day and the instructors from the Gap Project for delivering a fun, beneficial, well planned out day!

Beach Olympics 2008

Beach Olympics awards

The Cyrenians Annual Beach Olympics took place on the 2nd July 2008.

The weather managed to hold out for the two hour fun event, and teams from Wallich Clifford, Syshp, Dragon Arts, Tenancy support and St .Matthew’s community centre took part.

Participants (staff and service users alike) showed great team spirit by participating in events such as a fancy dress assault course, gutter run challenge, space hopper time trials, welly wanging and tug of war.

It was a close call, but Dragon arts took the trophy for this year, and reign champions of the Cyrenians Beach Olympics 2008!

Cyrenians would like to thank all staff and participants in the event and also would like to thank Swansea market engraving service for providing the trophy and Leisure Quest, Vue Cinema, The Leisure Centre and RokSport for donating prizes for the event.

We hope to see you all again next year for another CYRENIANS BEACH OLYMPICS!!!
